Anxiety and depression are not simply chemical imbalances or personality traits—they are often signs of a nervous system that has lost its ability to regulate efficiently.
For some people, the brain becomes "stuck" in patterns of hypervigilance, worry, or emotional shutdown. For others, poor sleep, chronic stress, inflammation, sensory overload, developmental delays, retained primitive reflexes, autonomic imbalance, or inefficient timing networks all contribute to symptoms that feel overwhelming.
I don't begin by asking "What diagnosis do you have?"I do begin by asking,

A Systems Approach to Anxiety & Depression
Mood is influenced by far more than thoughts alone.

Research Continues to Expand
Modern neuroscience increasingly recognizes that anxiety and depression involve interactions between brain networks, autonomic regulation, inflammation, sleep, metabolism, and environmental stress—not simply neurotransmitter levels alone.
Research supports interventions that improve nervous system regulation, including exercise, sleep optimization, sensory integration, rhythmic timing therapies, cognitive behavioral approaches, mindfulness, and other brain-based interventions. Emerging evidence also continues to explore the role of photobiomodulation, auditory stimulation, and other neuromodulation strategies in supporting emotional regulation.
As this understanding grows, treatment is shifting away from symptom management alone and toward restoring healthier nervous system function.

See the problem, then correct it
Neuroscience is increasingly showing the basis in the brain for anxiety and depression and other mood problems. For example, many studies have shown that on average, mood is better when the left frontal cortex is more active than the same location on the right. But not all anxiety and depression is the same.
Medications treat the symptoms and do not correct the source of the problem in the brain. Our approach is different. We measure brain function with a quantitative EEG brain map (qEEG), so that you can see the reason in your brain for your mood problems. Our approach and our goal is different.
We look for the systems contributing to dysregulation, identify the areas most likely to create meaningful change, and develop an individualized plan that supports the brain and body working together.
